This is a good Question Amelia...How do you practice?
Many people have different ways to practice. The most important thing is to find a place where you will not be distracted or will distract others. Practicing can be a great way to 'get away' from others or have some alone time. I practice on a chair in my room, and I have a music stand and a pencil. Then always PRACTICE SLOWLY! It is better to go very very slowly and not make a mistake than to just play as fast as you can. Try to listen to the sound of your instrument. How can you make is more beautiful? Try a softer breath.
Pick a song you need to practice and tap your foot. Start with the first note and play until you make a mistake. Repeat the part of the song thats difficult 10 times. Or play a whole song at least 10 times. IF you can play the song ten times without a mistake, then you have mastered it. NEVER just fly through a song. Always be aware of what note your playing. ASK yourself what the not is called...Are you on a line or a space. These things take time to memorize, but if you practice everyday then you will memorize very quickly.
